Orcas Swim School

Orcas Swim School

“We teach, we guide. We mould, we shape and then we send them off to be great!”

That’s our MOTTO at Orcas Swim School. Why - because every child we are teaching to swim, we are sending them off with a skill for life, a skill that will empower them to be great at whatever they put their minds to.

Liam John Tancock is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics, FINA world championships, and European championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games. He specialised in backstroke and individual medley events.

Liam had this to say about swimming:

“Swimming has given me a lot. It's given me a respect for people and different cultures around the world when I've been competing abroad. I've learnt many life skills and met so many friends around the world that I might not have had otherwise. I'm focused and driven and I guess swimming has made me that way.”

We have kids that have the talent to be another “Liam” and become a swimming star and we have kids who will become “Liam” in a different skill and talent. We believe all the kids who come through Orcas have the power to become great in whatever they decide to do with their one great extraordinary life!

Our Bears

The first few lessons can be explained in 3 words: POOP, TEARS and LAUGHTER.

The last few lessons can be explained in 3 words: INDEPENDENCE, CONFIDENCE and HAPPY HEARTS.

We call them our Bear Cubs but they surprise us all about how grown up they actually become through the months we teach, mould and shape. These 2 year olds are in that “terrible two” stage that we as parents know all too well, but the rewards we have seen through these age groups is priceless.

We at Orcas just stand in awe at the incredible progress the Bush Babies have made. Here is one small snippet of one of our parents from the Bears:

“We went to Sun City and people couldn’t stop watching our little girl in the water, and having such confidence to just keep playing and swimming, she just didn’t want to get out”

This little girl was petrified when she started at Orcas and screamed for the first few lessons, but through patience and perseverance, she is now a fish in water, and as “Dory” would put it, “just keeps swimming, swimming, swimming”

Our Staff

Just as we believe in our moto for the kids, we believe in it for our staff to. A lot of our staff are students and young adults, some in their first jobs and others in a part time job while they studying to become their “greatness”.

We pride ourselves on the high standard of our staff, and ensure they are qualified in Swim South Africa, Swim Dynamics, Professional Baby Swimming Teachers Association, who all offer various courses for individuals to enable us to maintain our high standards.

We acknowledge each staff member’s unique skills, which they relay on to the kids with huge success. We believe these skills is our greatest asset, one which ensures we are one of the top swimming schools in Pretoria.
