Facilities

The SAX Arena is a fully-equipped professional theatre capable of holding audiences in excess of 800. It has become the venue for a variety of exciting performances and events.

The SAX Gym is a valuable addition to the school enrichment programme, offering a fully equipped and self sustaining facility. This allows the school to offer a training programme with access to qualified personal who provide professional assistance. In this way the College offers a programme unique to our schooling environment. The gym comprises a state-ofthe-art cardiovascular, resistance and cable equipment.

SAM Music studios are specialist facilities in which the students are exposed to the practical aspects of the music industry and helps the to create a safe environment where students are given the freedom to explore their musical creativity and to perform music in front of small audiences instead of just learning about the theory of music.

The SDA Dance studio facilities include two sprung-floor dance studios, one of which converts into a fully equipped performance space; state-of-the-art sound and a baby grand piano for exam and rehearsal purposes. Both the small and main dance studios are found in the SAX Building which is situated on campus.

The College’s indoor swimming pools are for both the Orcas swim school and provide a training facility to the high school and TUKS swimming school. The one pool is 25-metres in length with a set depth throughout making it accessible to pupils of all ages and the other is 12-metres in length with varying depths to accommodate the smaller children. The facilities promote health and exercise opportunities; and teach lifetime water skills.

Sporting facilities at the college include 4 tennis courts; 4 netball courts; 2 cricket fields and 4 cricket nets; 2 hockey fields; and 2 rugby fields. The facilities are constantly maintained and upgraded to ensure that Southdowns College can accommodate the strategic growth of the College. They provide professional facilities which will enable the pupils to achieve results that are world class.
